  • Origin & Destination:

    • is the cargo being dropped off and/or being picked up from at a station, terminal or port;

    • is the cargo being picked up and/or delivered to a business requiring a lift gate truck; a residence or some other location requiring "special" or "accessorial" services;

    • if the cargo is crossing an international border there may be additional charges for import and/or exports including but not limited to terminal handling, documentation, inspections, duties and taxes;

  • Weight and Dimensions:

    • the gross weight of the packed shipping unit (box if by parcel carrier, pallet or crate if by freight carrier, container or truckload as applicable);

    • the dimensions or dimensional weight base upon the total cubic feet or cubic meters;

    • chargeable weight (the greater of the dimensional weight or gross weight);

    • overages in length, width or height or weight;

  • Commodity and Value;

    • some commodities require special handling or packing required by the carrier or regulating authorities, for the purpose of protection of the cargo, persons and other property;

    • the cost of insurance is significantly based upon the commodity, packaging, value and mode of transport;

    • import costs are largely based upon the commodity as classified by the Uniform Harmonized Tariff Codes and the value as listed on the Commercial Invoice.
